Plumbing term of the day:
Flapper valve
The part inside the tank of a toilet that flaps open and then closes to allow water to flow from the tank to the bowl. If it doesn’t seal properly when closed, water will continuously seep into the bowl, and huge amounts of water will be wasted.
Question often asked to plumbers: My toilet continually fills with fresh water. Why is this happening?
First of all, this means that hundreds of gallons of water are being wasted, and you probably have the water bill to prove it. This usually happens because the flush valve isn’t falling properly into place, which may be caused by a tangled chain or a bad flapper. Fortunately, fixing this problem is easy and inexpensive. If the valve itself is bad, the work may be a little more involved.
Berkeley Plumbing and Heating: Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractor
Many plumbing and heating companies in the East Bay claim to have years of experience. How many of them can say they’ve been in business for more than a century? Berkeley Plumbing and Heating, owned and operated for over 100 years, opened its doors in 1906, and we’ve been proudly serving communities like Oakland, El Cerrito and Berkeley ever since. As a fourth-generation plumbing and heating company, we take pride in being a part of the local community. With more than 100 years in business, it’s clear that we’ve been doing something right. If you need plumbing or heating repairs, installation or service, we’re the company to trust.
It’s easy for a plumbing and heating contractor to say it has what it takes, but Berkeley Plumbing and Heating is ready to prove it. We are a signatory contractor, and we are affiliated with UA Local 159 and 342. We hold six licenses, and we are fully bondable. You can also breathe easy because Berkeley Plumbing and Heating is completely licensed and insured. This all means that you never have to worry when you hire us. These licenses and insurance policies aren’t just designed to protect us; they’re designed to protect our customers too.
Berkeley Plumbing and Heating is owned by Walter Wind, who was the third generation to own and operate our company. He is now retired, and his son, Stephen Wind, now runs the business. Our owners don’t just sit back and kick up their feet; like the plumbers and technicians we hire, the people who own and run our company have been apprentices and journeymen plumbers. We believe that it takes a talented and knowledgeable tradesman to know how to run this kind of business properly, and we plan to maintain this philosophy in the years to come.
